چکیده
AIM We set forth to identify predictors of symptomatic vasospasm in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). MATERIAL AND METHODS We used multivariate logistic regression analysis of the prospective, hospital based, single center register of the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Debrecen, Hungary. Evaluated patients' characteristics were: sex, age, Hunt-Hess grade on admission, location of aneurysm, thickness of blood clot on initial CT scan (Fisher grade), hypertension. RESULTS Between 1987 and 2004, 567 SAH cases were registered, 457 were included in this study. Symptomatic vasospasm developed in 22.5% of the cases. In univariate analysis, Hunt-Hess grades 2 and 3 and female sex were predictive for symptomatic vasospasm. In multivariate analysis, female sex remained a significant predictor: OR: 1.8 (1.005-3.2). CONCLUSION Women are at more danger of developing symptomatic vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Comparative Efficacy of Meloxicam and Placebo in Vasospasm of Patients with Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Cerebral vasospasm considered to be a serious cause of morbidity and mortality following subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH).Despite several available therapeutic options, current protocols do not prevent major consequences of vasospasm. Inflammation is believed to play an important role in post-haemorrhagic vasospasm. Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The aim of this study was to...
متن کاملANATOMIC CORRELATION BE TWEEN INTIMAL PATHOLOGY AND CEREBRAL VASOSPASM FOLLOWING SUBARACHNOID HEMORRHAGE
Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) resulting from a ruptured intracranial aneurysm can induce cerebral vasospasm with subsequent reduction in cerebral blood flow (CBF). The present study examines the pathological alterations in the wall of human cerebral arteries at autopsy, especially with regard to intimal pathology, following aneurysmal SAH. Arterial segments from the circle of Willis were fi...
متن کاملPrediction of symptomatic vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage: the modified fisher scale.
OBJECTIVE We developed a modification of the Fisher computed tomographic rating scale and compared it with the original Fisher scale to determine which scale best predicts symptomatic vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage. METHODS We analyzed data from 1355 subarachnoid hemorrhage patients in the placebo arm of four randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies of tirilazad. Modified...
متن کاملCORRELATION BE TWEEN ENDOTHELIAL INJURY AND CEREBRAL VASOSPASM FOLLOWING A DOUBLE SUBARACHNOID HEMORRHAGE IN THE RAT
While a wide array of pathological changes occur in cerebral arteries following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), the most consistent is endothelial damage. Since the endothelium normally modulates reflexes that influence vascular tone, any damage to it may represent a significant contributor to cerebral vasospasm following SAH. This experimental study investigates the correlation between end...
متن کاملEarly Vasospasm after Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Predicts the Occurrence and Severity of Symptomatic Vasospasm and Delayed Cerebral Ischemia.
BACKGROUND Cerebral vasospasm usually develops several days after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and is generally acknowledged as a strong outcome predictor. In contrast, much less is known about the nature and eventual consequences of early angiographic vasospasm (EAVS) seen on admission digital subtraction angiography (DSA). Therefore, we aimed at identifying the risk factors and clinical impa...
